Marie was born and raised in North Carolina. She has served churches in North Carolina, Illinois, and Belgium as a youth minister. Marie was the Assistant to the Vice President of Academic Affairs at Peace College in Raleigh, North Carolina, and she was the Registrar at the Mekane Yesus Theological Seminary in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, where she also served on the faculty. She came to Vanderbilt in 2005 from a position as a church administrator in Franklin, Tennessee. She loves living in the 12 South neighborhood with her husband, Mark, and with their two college-age children, Atticus and Claire.

Marie serves as the Administrative Assistant in the Graduate Department of Religion and the Program in Theology and Practice. Her office is Divinity 202-C and her number is (615) 343-3977.
