The Tennessee Register: Dr. Bruce Morrill to present at Islamic Catholic Relationship Series

"It seems to me that the Good Friday intercessions speak volumes about that posture of friendship and earnest desire for the progress of all peoples, as well as a properly humble and, in proper measure, penitent acknowledgement of Roman Catholics' failures, as individuals and at times as a corporate body, to be the living witnesses of the Gospel of peace and human upbuilding that Christ gave his life to empower," said Father Morrill. "This stands for the Church - in its leaders and all members - not least in its relationship with Muslim peoples.

Kathleen Flake, a Mormon who is a professor of American religious history at Vanderbilt Divinity School, explained that the planets notion had been de-emphasized in modern times in favor of a less concrete explanation: people who die embark on an "eternal progression" that allows them "to partake in God's glory."

Bruce Morrill: Vanderbilt View Article - Faith In Practice

Bruce Morrill researches the enigma of suffering:

Consider a young mother. Say she is a practicing Christian, stricken with inoperable cancer and has six painful months to a year to live.

Is God punishing her for her sins? If not, why is this misfortune being visited on her and her loved ones? How are people who believe in a benevolent God supposed to interpret this and maintain their faith? Can religious faith comfort us when it seems there is no hope?
