Economic Empowerment Coalition
The Economic Empowerment Coalition’s mission is multi-faceted. EEC works to educate and raise awareness about issues of poverty, economic and social injustice, workers’ rights, and labor issues in the Vanderbilt and greater Nashville communities. This group is an advocate for a living wage and just employment conditions for all Vanderbilt employees. Finally, EEC hopes to mobilize people of all faiths around the aforementioned issues, standing in solidarity with the working poor and others living in poverty.
The Economic Empowerment Coalition sponsors a variety of activities. During the fall of 2007, they hosted community gatherings (Labor Day Potluck, Sustainable Living Round Table), educational workshops (Lunch Discussion on Justice at Smithfield campaign, What is a Living Wage, Cost of Living Workshop), and worker relation coordination (organizes VDS students to share lunch with Vanderbilt low-wage workers to develop relationships). Please email the officers for a current calendar of events.
