Katherine H. Smith

Assistant Dean for Admissions, Vocation, and Stewardship

A native of Nashville, Tennessee and ordained minister in the Presbyterian Church (USA), Katherine has worked in theological education since 2007. Prior to arriving at Vanderbilt, Katherine served as Director of the Duke Youth Academy for Christian Formation in Durham, NC, a youth theology initiative funded by the Lilly Endowment, Inc. in partnership with Leadership Education at Duke Divinity. She also served as Managing Director of Princeton Project 55, Inc. (now AlumniCorps) in Princeton, NJ, a non-profit organization that seeks to construct social change and cultivate civic leaders by mobiizing people, organizations, and networks for the public good.

Katherine and her colleagues in the Office of Admissions, Vocation, and Stewardship support students throughout the arc of their Divinity career, through vocational discernment, admissions and financial aid, and career planning. Her primary interests include working with individuals around questions of vocation, helping to cultivate healthy, theologically-wise institutions, and forming theological leaders for the 21st century.

Katherine and her husband, Bart Smith, Director of Development for Vanderbilt Athletics, have two daughters.
