Clearing the Path Fund Established at Vanderbilt Divinity School

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — March 25, 2026 — Vanderbilt University Divinity School has received a generous commitment from an anonymous donor family to establish the Clearing the Path Fund, created to help current

students navigate unexpected financial challenges while continuing their theological education and formation.

The Clearing the Path Fund will provide assistance for unforeseen expenses for currently enrolled Divinity School students, including but not limited to emergency housing assistance, meals, technology needed for online learning, childcare, urgent healthcare, and other necessities. By helping cover these unexpected costs, the fund ensures that temporary financial hardships do not prevent students from continuing their studies.

The family structured their commitment to support students both immediately and for generations to come. A portion of the gift provides immediate, current-use support, helping students facing urgent financial needs today, while the remainder builds the long-term endowment of the same fund to sustain this support for future generations. As the endowment grows through reinvested earnings, it will provide long-term support for future Divinity students, ensuring the fund can continue to meet emerging needs over time.

“This approach allows us to build a permanent source of support for the future while we respond to student needs right now,” said Amanda Alibrandi, assistant dean of development at Vanderbilt Divinity School.

These funds provide a safety net for students navigating urgent financial challenges. By removing barriers, they can stay on track in their academic journey to become ministers, social justice leaders, and scholars.

“The Clearing the Path Fund will provide critical funds for students during times of crisis and unexpected need," said Angela Dillon, director of student affairs at Vanderbilt Divinity School. “This fund very well could be the difference between students finishing their degrees or having to step away for financial reasons. We are so grateful to be able to provide this lifeline for our students.”

The Clearing the Path Fund will be administered by the Dean’s Office and students may apply through the form available here.
