Exhibit: “From the Cradle of Christianity to the Buckle of the Bible Belt: The Syriac Experience in North America”
A student-curated exhibit featuring items from Vanderbilt University’s Special Collections will be on display during the symposium. The exhibit will examine how Syriac cultures have been portrayed, received, and transplanted in North America over the past three centuries.
Pre-Conference Workshop: “Introduction to The Syriac Sourcebook”
Syriaca.org and the Digital Lab at Vanderbilt University Libraries will host a pre-conference workshop on the morning of Monday June 28th. The workshop will offer training in digital research methods and an introduction to a new open access online resource, The Syriac Sourcebook.
Thematic Panels: Teaching and Study of Syriac
We also invite proposals of organized panels related to the conference theme or other topics in Syriac Studies. Two panels are already envisioned and more are welcome:
- As a tribute to the late Fr. Sidney H. Griffith, one of the founders of the North American Syriac Symposium, we invite papers for a special panel exploring the legacies of Prof. Griffith’s scholarship.
- The Beth Mardutho Research Library and Syriaca.org: The Syriac Reference Portal invite papers for panels focused on the application of digital methods to the study of Syriac.
